The first Rector of St Margaret was the Reverend Charles Jupp who founded the Aberlour Orphanage in 1875 to care for “deprived children and young adults”. The orphanage remained until 1967 when the orphanage buildings were sold and the Aberlour Trust was formed.
St Margaret’s Church, designed by Alexander Ross, was consecrated in 1879. The high altar is of Caen stone, and the tall Gothic Sacrament House is of particular note. The sanctuary tiles are ‘encaustic tiles’ from Stoke-on-Trent and show ‘The Lamb of God’, ‘The Pelican in Her Piety’ and ‘The Instruments of the Passion’. The capitals of the pillars are interesting, and if you look very carefully you will see the squirrel above the Rector’s stall.
