Music at the Cathedral

Director of Music: Adrian Marple

Organist: Gordon Tocher

The cathedral choir has an adult voluntary choir of around 20 voices. The choir is in residence at the 11.00 a.m. Eucharist on every Sunday of the year, usually with the exception of the Sunday after Christmas. A full setting is sung to music by a variety of composers including Haydn, Mozart, Stanford, Darke, Tocher etc. There is also a large repertoire of anthems in a wide range of styles.

Choral evensong is sung approximately once per month on Sundays at 5.30 p.m. and the choir is also in attendance on occasions such as Ash Wednesday, the Easter Triduum, All Souls, Midnight Mass etc.

The choir rehearses every Friday from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. and we can offer an opportunity to adult singers and those of secondary school age to sing high quality music alongside talented, enthusiastic and friendly singers in our beautiful building with its excellent acoustic. Anyone interested should send an email to the Director ofvMusic, Bert Richardson:

We have just appointed Katie Phillips  as the Cathedral’s Organ Scholar. One of our previous Organ Scholars went on to be Organ Scholar at St. Andrews University and subsequently undertook a Master’s Degree in choral and organ studies at Cambridge University.
